Chemistry Australia has announced Karen Dobson, Managing Director Australia and New Zealand of Dow Chemical, as the newly elected Chair of Chemistry Australia.
Dr Grant Lukey, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Coogee Chemicals, has been elected as Chemistry Australia Deputy Chair.
This follows David Hawkins, Chairman and Managing Director of BASF Australia, stepping down as Chair of the Chemistry Australia Board at our recent AGM.
Chemistry Australia CEO Samantha Read said she is delighted to welcome both Karen and Grant to their new positions as Chair and Deputy Chair of Chemistry Australia.
“Karen and Grant bring valuable experience to the Chemistry Australia Board having successfully stewarded their businesses through disruption and ongoing challenges arising from the pandemic,” said Ms Read.
“As Chemistry Australia Chair, we look forward to Karen’s leadership as an advocate for the growth and sustainability of our strategically important industry.
“Karen is passionate about the industry’s role in providing solutions to support Australia’s energy transition and establish circular economies.
“As former Chair of Chemistry Australia’s Plastics Council, Karen is also instrumental to our sector’s policy engagement in the circular economy, and sustainable use and production of plastics.
“In the Deputy Chair role, Grant’s deep understanding of chemicals manufacturing, mineral processing, and supply chains – particularly in Western Australia – will be vital as we continue to advocate for conditions that will enable Australia to support a diverse and complex manufacturing sector.”
Ms Read also acknowledged the service of David Hawkins, who has led the Chemistry Australia Board for five years. “I’d also like to thank David for his significant contribution to the Chemistry Australia Board and the Australian chemistry industry during his tenure as Chair,” said Ms Read.
“His advocacy on behalf of the industry, particularly his commitment to fostering opportunities for greater diversity in our industry’s leadership pipeline, has strengthened the long-term strategic position of our sector.”
“Chemistry Australia looks forward to continuing this valuable industry advocacy with David in his capacity as Chair of the Plastics Council.”
