Industry Clean Up event report 2025

03 November 2025

Chemistry Australia was pleased to partner with NGO partner Tangaroa Blue, Dow and Viva Energy, Chemistry Australia to host two industry clean up events in Melbourne and Sydney.

Almost 60 participants from across the industry arrived to clean up each site, representing every part of the plastics value chain, including suppliers, transporters, manufacturers, and recyclers, along with industry associations and staff from the NSW EPA, DCCEEW, and Victorian EPA.

Together, participants removed 28kg of litter from the Melbourne site and 30kg from the Sydney site. Plastic feedstock pollution was rated 4-5 in Melbourne and 2-3 in Sydney, highlighting both the progress and ongoing challenges in preventing nurdle loss.

The events were blessed with perfect weather, with high levels of engagement between industry members. Many were keen to share how they’re implementing Operation Clean Sweep® within their businesses and took the opportunity to discuss regulatory requirements directly with EPA Officers.

If you’d like to learn more about Operation Clean Sweep® or take the Operation Clean Sweep® pledge, visit https://www.opcleansweep.org.au/pledge.

Operation Clean Sweep® Australia will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, marking a decade of working with industry and government regulators toward the shared goal of reducing plastic feedstock loss.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the 2025 Nurdle Hunt events in Melbourne and Sydney, particularly the businesses and industry partners who helped promote the events and gave their staff the opportunity to participate.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
