In November, members gathered at the Sofitel Melbourne to enjoy a special breakfast event with special guest speakers Dennis Shanahan, National Editor, The Australian, and Megan Lilly, Deputy Commissioner, Jobs and Skills Australia, followed by Chemistry Australia’s eighth Annual General Meeting.
The Members Breakfast provided a forum for members to hear the perspectives of political and policy experts on key matters impacting the chemistry industry ahead of the Federal Election next year.
In his capacity as National Editor at The Australian, Dennis spoke to members about the issues the Government would be weighing up in their decision to call an election, and the potential dates the 2025 Election may be held. He also spoke about the issues and tactics the Opposition, Teal candidates, and the Greens would be considering as part of their approach in the lead up to the election.
Megan was recently appointed Deputy Commissioner of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) and spoke about JSA’s role providing independent advice to government regarding the jobs, skills and training portfolio. Megan discussed JSA’s approach to understanding Australia’s skills needs and the key issues impacting the availability of skilled workers across the economy, and in our sector.
