Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards recognise Australian chemistry industry excellence - 27 May 2015

PACIA congratulates all of the award finalists, recipients and inductees into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame for 2015.

As the voice of the Australian chemistry industry, PACIA represents the manufacturers and distributors of products that feed in to 109 of 111 industry sectors.

PACIA CEO Samantha Read said the Australian chemistry industry plays a crucial role in meeting the needs of an expanding world today and in providing solutions to future challenges.

Ms Read said she was pleased to see innovation and skills development recognised and awarded through the Manufacturing Hall of Fame program with a wonderful result for Australian chemistry industry member Qenos, named finalist for its work in providing international education services.

“Qenos is a great example of how Australian industry can export manufacturing skills and know-how to the world,” Ms Read said.

“The Qenos Knowledge Exchange program began in 2007 through supporting safety, health and environment (SHE) management practices and systems at parent organisation’s Bluestar site in Tianjin, China.

“The program has strengthened ties with ChemChina management and now spread to more than 20 sites with small teams from Australia travelling to Chinese sites to deliver structured training and technical education.

“Chinese Bluestar representatives have also spent time at Qenos in Victoria, learning about modern asset management practices.”

Qenos CEO and Executive Chairman and PACIA Chairman, Jonathan Clancy said he was pleased that Qenos had been recognised for its world-class systems and leadership across a range of disciplines in the Asian region.

“But the best outcome from this program is that we are helping to improve worker health and safety and improve productivity,” Mr Clancy said.

“While manufacturing is our core business, we must also find new opportunities to take our unique expertise in chemistry, safety and operations to the world.”

Qenos was Awarded Victorian Manufacturer of the Year in 2013.

Qenos adds value to Australia’s gas resources, using chemistry to convert these natural resources into high value polymers used to create innovative and practical long life products such as water pipes and tanks, plastic milk bottles and medical products.

As Australia’s only manufacturer of polyethylene, Qenos contributes more than $1 billion annually to the national economy.

The winners were announced last night at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Gala Dinner held at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium. The prestigious Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards recognise excellence in manufacturing for individuals and organisations.
